So your homeowners insurance is on the rise due to increase claims in your area. If you live in a coastal state or community prone to natural disasters it's likely your homeowners insurance premium has gone up over the past couple years. We understand premiums will go up due to the volatility in construction material but if you reside in a coastal community it's likely you have searched for more affordable home insurance rates.

So how do you lower your homeowners insurance premium? Theres only a handful of things you can do but each should lower your homeowners premium. The amount of savings is unique to each situation and please consult with your insurance agent to ensure changing your policy is right for you.

Raise your deductible to lower your homeowners insurance premium. By raising your deductible you can lower your premium a little bit or dramatically depending on how high you raise your deductible. As your homeowners insurance agent what the different policy premiums are at the different deductibles. Deductibles usually range from $250 up to $30,000. Deductibles depend greatly on the insurance company and your location. As you can imagine, $250 out-of-pocket compared to $30,000 out-of-pocket can make a big difference in the premiums your insurance company collects.

Upgrade your home to lower your homeowners insurance rates. Adding features such as a home security alarm or putting a new roof on your home will lower your home insurance premiums. There are also things such as a swimming pool that have the potential of raising your homeowners insurance rates so be sure to consult with your insurance agent before adding or upgrading your home to see how much you'll save.

If you don't already insure all your insurables with one company consider consolidating as most insurance companies give discounts for multi-policy owners. This is an easy way to save on all your policies. The multi-policy discount will be applied to your auto and homeowners insurance premiums. Perhaps your children or significant other is currently insured through a different company, try getting a free quote from your insurance company to insure the other products to see what kind of savings they can provide.

Don't forget to shop around. Homeowner Insurance quotes are free and just because a company has a lower rate doesn't mean it's not a reputable company. So be sure to shop around and compare company ratings.
