Finding ADHD Treatment Options
There are many adults walking around that are not aware that they have ADHD. This is because they were born
before it was widely recognized, and also because they are so used to living with it that it does not occur to them
that this is not something that is the way normal life moves along. ADHD treatment options can help those with the
condition, but it can’t help if someone has no idea that this is what they have. If you can live with it without
problem, there is no need to seek treatment if you don’t want to. However, if it interferes with life, see someone
to tell you about your options.
When my brothers were both young, they were given what was just about the only ADHD treatments options there
were. They were given Ritalin, and my mother was told to feed them a more natural diet. That was all they had at
the time. The problem with the first of these ADHD treatment options was that Ritalin was hit and miss. It could
turn a child into a zombie if the dose was too high, and did nothing if it was too low. It often took months, if
not years, to get the right dosing. It did help, but it was far from perfect.
Today, there are other medications that are used as ADHD treatment options, and many of them work much better
than Ritalin did when it first came out. Ritalin works in a strange way. Because of a change in the chemical makeup
of the body, those with ADHD and ADD will respond differently to things than those without. Caffeine actually calms
them down and sleep aids keep them up all night long. That is why Ritalin would help calm and settle ADHD and ADD
patients, but those without it would get worked up and sped up if they took it.
Along with medications for ADHD treatment options, there are some natural remedies that you can try, but talk
with your doctor about them first. You don’t want to mix natural herbs with medications, as they can have a deadly
reaction when put together in the body. There are also techniques used as ADHD treatment options that allow a
person with this condition to try to master some calming activities on their own. They can learn to channel the
energy that they get from ADHD from both the mind and body in a more productive manner.
